A Bout Moi

Whilst doing my BA (Media & Communications) I became involved in live music. When you add my obsession with 'social media', SEO, content production and general creation/invention/entrepreneurial thoughts, you get a mind exploding with lots of brilliant and terrible ideas, being written down, right here.

what's so important?

I once read the work of a media theorist whom refused to adopt the capitalisation of letters at the beginning of sentences for some incredibly ponce reason. I would adopt this technique but I'm afraid Google hates it, and Google is SkyNet so I better fucking listen to Google.

This is my first blog, I'm not so sure what's in it for you. But for me, it's kind of carthatic. Wow, the spellchecker software doesn't know the meaning of carthatic. My irony meter exploded. As you will learn, I like to talk, write, and observe with my tongue in my cheek. This explains naming this site 'important me' - because I'm about as important as every blogger (see 'nada'). The only bloggers I can think of are Maddox, Tucker Max, Tim Ferriss, and the Zero Punctuation guy.

I love the idea of making social media integrate with the live music scene. Smart phones make for kick-ass communication devices and what we could do with them on our nights out on the town boggle my mind. I love live music, and whilst the average Melbournian punter is probably a bigger dick than other city folk around the country (crossed arms and unimpressed expression), I feel that new technologies could enhance live music and make local live music a more enjoyable experience.

"How?!" you cry.

How about live interaction on set choices; the audience gets to decide what song the band plays next; or what cover they play; or what style the guitarist has to play his solo in. Moreover, they can directly influence whether there's a bass solo or a drum solo in the next song. In a few years, I believe 99% of folk will have a web-capable phone; ditto Facebook - thus the idea of directly influencing what a great band plays on the night seems like a lot of fun. It would allow them to really improvise.

Or maybe if someone on Four Square was at your gig, and could earn a badge for playing a guitar solo or singing a song with your band? How cool would that be! Ditto Facebook; if it was someone's birthday they could get a song dedicated to them. As I said before, the possibilities are mind boggling. There could be an UrbanSpoon or mombo.com for bands.

This is my blog, and I'll use it to research and promote funky ideas that cross my mind on the subjects keeping my brain ticking: social media, music, fitness, sport, entrepreneurship.

Important message over,
Robert Marks.
